Porto de Navegantes reaches the mark of 1 million TEUs handled in 2021

This Friday (November 12), Portonave surpassed the mark of one million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent unit) handled. The feat happened during the operation of the ship Ever Laurel, from the shipowner Evergreen, the same ship that made the opening of the new Turning Basin in May 2020. With capacity for 8,452 TEUs, the ship is 334.9 meters long and 45.8 meters wide. This milestone boosts the economy of the State of Santa Catarina and places the company into the select group of terminals of the Port of Santos Complex that have already handled more than 1 million TEUs in a single year.

This achievement is the result of month-to-month performance with significant milestones in the port segment, especially in the months of February, March, May, September, and October, when more than 100,000 TEUs/month were handled. Moreover, Portonave continues to lead in container handling in the South in both segments: import and export. On a national scale, the first private terminal in the Country remains in second place in the ranking of ports for container handling. And it stands out for having one of the highest growth rates among the terminals in Brazil in container handling, with 37% growth in comparison with the numbers from the same period last year.

For the operational director-superintendent, Renê Duarte Júnior, “The 1 million TEUs mark is very representative and makes us very proud. In Brazil, there are only a few terminals that have the capacity and are able to surpass this mark. We can say that Portonave is now part of the ‘million club,’ and that in 14 years of operation, it has become a benchmark for efficiency, quality, and safety in container handling.” The director also emphasizes that “The main highlight of this achievement is our human capital.
