The Port Terminal has obtained the highest category, which recognizes good sustainable practices in the port sector

During COP30, an international conference that brings together global leaders to discuss the challenges of climate change, in Belém (state of Pará), the Brazilian Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor) recognized Portonave with the Diamond Sustainability Seal – the highest classification – this Wednesday (12). The initiative aims to encourage Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices in the port sector, aligned with the global goals of the United Nations (UN) 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

To achieve this recognition, Portonave joined MPor’s Sustainability Pact, preparing an action plan that brings together its main sustainability-focused initiatives – each of them associated with an SDG.

In the environmental pillar, highlights include the acquisition of port equipment with lower Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions, a climate change risk study for the port sector – scheduled for publication this year – and ongoing environmental monitoring programs. The Company adopts efficient waste management practices, based on the Zero Waste methodology, as well as initiatives for water reuse and preservation of local biodiversity, such as the "Corujar” program, which monitors burrowing owls.

On the social front, Portonave stands out for its Maternity Support Program, which has achieved a 100% return rate of professionals after maternity leave, and for training and professional inclusion projects, such as the Young Apprentice program, "Embarca Aí" – focused on youth training – and the Institute Portonave Choir, which offers singing lessons to the community.

In terms of governance, since 2021 the company has maintained ISO 37001 certification (Anti-Bribery Management System), being the first container port terminal in the country to obtain it. These actions strengthen transparency and consolidate ethical and responsible management, which builds a beneficial port-city relationship.

Other initiatives can be found in the Company’s Sustainability Reports, prepared in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guidelines.

About MPor’s Sustainability Seal
Created this year by the Brazilian Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor), the Sustainability Seal recognizes good environmental, social, and governance practices in public and private ports across the country. The assessment considers technical criteria audited by independent institutions and is based on sustainable performance indicators.

Diamond classification
To qualify for the Diamond category, Portonave submitted an action plan with 10 initiatives across the three pillars required by the certification – including two self-defined targets, one in the environmental pillar and another in the social pillar. The actions had to be evaluated and audited by an independent institution. The Company also publicly disclosed its salary and compensation transparency reports, confirmed its adherence to the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program, and the publication of its corporate greenhouse gas emissions inventories in the Public Emissions Registry. In addition, the company has no uninvestigated harassment complaints and no records of the use of forced or child labor.

Benefits of the recognition
With the Diamond Seal, Portonave receives a series of benefits established by MPor, including priority in qualification for the issuance of debentures, priority in the analysis of projects using the Merchant Marine Fund (FMM), scoring in awards and as a tiebreaker criterion in MPor awards, prioritization in administrative proceedings and in the monitoring of environmental licensing processes by MPor, and priority in dialogue with other federal government bodies.

About Portonave
The company is located in Navegantes, on the northern coast of Santa Catarina, and began operations in 2007 as Brazil’s first private port terminal. It is part of the Swiss group Terminal Investment Limited (TiL). Currently, the company has 1,300 direct employees and 5,500 indirect ones. In addition to standing out for operational excellence, the Company is committed to ESG practices (Environmental, Social, and Governance) and permanently invests in projects aimed at developing the community.
